Terrace planting

Terrassenbepflanzung

The terrace between the Institute and the cafeteria is the meeting point for all tours, the cafeteria has its outdoor area here and students enjoy their break by the lotus pond.

Prairie
Due to the strong heating of the institute's façade in summer, the planting must be adapted accordingly. The border parallel to the institute building is therefore dedicated to prairie plants. The prairie, which is located in North America and Canada, is a naturally evolved grassland and was the livelihood of huge herds of bison until the 19th century. A typical feature is a treeless area that is sparsely covered with grasses, wildflowers and occasional shrubs.

Lotus pond
In the round water basin, the graceful Indian lotus flower (Nelumbo nucifera) fascinates during the summer months. If you are lucky, you may see a grass snake meandering through the water.

Scented Pelargoniums
Various scented pelargoniums can be sniffed in large pots. To do this, rub the leaves carefully. Scents of fir, lemon, rose and shoe polish make for relaxed or astonished faces.
