Tropical Dryland House

Trockengebiete
Tropenhaus Trockengebiete

Hardly any precipitation, heat during the day, cold at night - plants in these locations must have special adaptations.
The largest dry regions are located in the area of the dry winds of the tropics. Other dry regions are in the lee of mountains, shielded from precipitation. These include, for example, the Namib Desert and the dry valleys in the Andes.
We show you plants from Madagascar, South Africa, the Canary Islands and other regions.
In a display case you can see carnivores up close. The extraordinary Welwitschia (Welwitschia mirabilis) also enjoys its special place. The living stones are waiting to be discovered.

Welwitschie (Welwitschia mirabilis):
In the showcase is this strange plant whose two leaves grow for its entire life, which can last up to 2000 years. We have a female specimen. Its roots are heated, which it really likes.
